Providers may prescribe compounded medications when a patient’s medical needs cannot be met with commercially available drug products. Currently, Semaglutide is no longer listed on the FDA’s drug shortage list. For patients, this means that they generally cannot obtain what is termed “essentially a copy” of the commercially available brand name drug product from a compounding pharmacy. However, if your provider determines that Semaglutide is right for you and your medical needs cannot be met by the commercially available products, they may prescribe compounded Semaglutide with changes that produce a significant difference for your medical needs.
